The fiscal year 1999/2000 was marked by a continued improvement in our financial situation. The Institute has finally eliminated the historic accumulated deficit, following increasingly promising financial statements over the last several years. This improvement is apparent in each and every part of the financial statements: the operating budget, the development budget, and the endowment.
In parallel to these accomplishments, we have expanded the funding for scientific research directly and indirectly through an improvement in infrastructure.
Income and Expenditures All figures are given in adjusted new Israeli shekels (ANIS) as of September 30, 2000. The rate of exchange at that time stood at NIS 4.024 to 1 U.S. dollar. ANIS is the shekel adjusted to a constant value, neutralizing distortions resulting from inflation.

| * This surplus, when added to the special appropriation of ANIS 5,085,000 received in 99/00 from the Government of Israel to cover the accumulated deficit of WIS over the years, served to eliminate the remaining fraction (ANIS 6,931,000 in 98/99) of the historic deficit and create an accumulated surplus of ANIS 1,412,000 at the end of FY 1999/2000. |
