High school graduates who enjoy science come to Israel to participate in the Weizmann Institute of Science's Dr. Bessie F. Lawrence International Summer Science Institute (ISSI). They expect to fall in love with scientific research, and maybe even the country that is hosting them. But being teenagers, and spending an intensive month together – in laboratories, lecture halls, on trips and at parties – they inevitably fall in love with one another. This is exactly what happened to Erin and Jerome, who recently married, in Canada, after meeting at the ISSI in 2001.

Sheri Federman of the Canadian Society for the Weizmann Institute of Science, who takes credit for bringing the couple together, was a special guest at the wedding.

After all, it was she who chose to award a scholarship to the two of them. Erin and Jerome also invited to the wedding all their friends who had participated in the camp, and it turned into a highly emotional reunion for those able to make it. As a symbolic gesture, their fellow campers presented the newlyweds with the Weizmann Institute flag, but when questioned as to how exactly the flag came to be in their possession, they preferred to keep mum.
