Koffler accelerator at the Weizmann Institute of Science

In the early 1930s, when the statesman and scientist Dr. Chaim Weizmann decided to found a research institute in the town of Rehovot, there was little there but sand dunes and orange groves.

Some of those citrus groves remain – on campus and its environs – but Rehovot is known today for its scientific learning and research, and the high-tech industry that has grown up around the city.
