Dr. Hanan Alon, Vice President, International Affairs and Public Relations
 
Dr. Hanan Alon, who joined the Weizmann Institute in 1997, served in the Israel Defense Forces for 25 years in a variety of command and staff positions. He was a personal assistant to two of the IDF's Chiefs of the General Staff. After the Yom Kippur War he became the Chief of the National Security Section of the IDF, and later the Head of the Strategic Planning Department of the General Staff. He earned a Ph.D. in public policy analysis in 1980 and retired from the army in 1986 with the rank of colonel. He established and directed the Department of Foreign Affairs in the Ministry of Defense. In 1992 Dr. Alon was appointed Head of Israel's Ministry of Defense Mission in Germany and was Minister of Technology at the Israeli Embassy in Bonn.
