Bringing about a Golden Age

The Weizmann Institute in its 50th year is a place of constant renewal. Change can be observed everywhere - be it in the renovation and construction of buildings and laboratories, the new generation of scientists and staff gradually taking the place of the Institute's founding generation, or the emergence of exciting, new disciplines. However, rapid change is not a luxury. It is necessary merely to keep up with the scientific and technological changes occurring worldwide. And the Weizmann Institute, from its earliest years, has never been satisfied with just keeping up.

Now as never before the Institute has the potential to undertake unique, cutting-edge scientific research. This is because the Weizmann Institute, in which the various disciplines dwell side by side, is optimally structured to facilitate the coming together of disciplines. The recent emergence of common ground between physics and biology has been the most surprising of these developments. Even within the disciplines, the dialogue between the various branches has impelled scientists to learn the different "dialects" in order to give birth to something new. To maximize the Institute's advantage, what is needed is support for our excellent human resources, so as to free creativity from financial restraints.

Another objective of the Weizmann Institute is to make science a spoken language within the general population and to nurture the scientists of the future. The Institute is actively involved in the development of school curricula and is happy to give Israel's youth the opportunity to experience scientific adventures within the framework of organized school visits to the Institute's campus.
