A team of students from the Lehman High School in the southern town of Dimona were this year’s winners of the annual space mini-olympiad in memory of Israeli astronaut Ilan Ramon. The students were awarded 1st prize – a trip to NASA summer space camp in Turkey – for a plan they developed for the treatment and clearance of space waste.
The competition – an initiative of Israel’s Ministry of Education, with Dr. Zahava Scherz and Dr. Ilana Hopfeld of the Weizmann Institute’s Science Teaching Department leading the project – took place at the Davidson Institute, and was attended by Ramon’s widow, Rona.
