A 1968 graduate of the Weizmann Institute's Feinberg Graduate School, Prof. David Mirelman became a faculty member of the Biophysics Department in 1970 and since 1984 holds the Besen-Brender Chair of Microbiology and Parasitology. In 1987, he was appointed Chairman of the Board of YEDA Research and Develop-ment, Ltd., the Weizmann Institute's technology transfer arm. In 1993, he was nominated to fill the newly established post of Vice President for Technology Transfer. Having completed his term of office in 1998, he was appointed Dean of the Institute's Faculty of Biochemistry. He heads the Y. Leon Benoziyo Institute for Molecular Medicine. An expert in the area of infectious diseases and molecular parasitology, he has received many awards, including the Fogarty Scholar Award given by the National Institutes of Health, and the Serov Annual Prize from the Israel Society for Microbiology.
