Participants in the ISSI camp. A presidential welcome
The president of the Weizmann Institute, Prof. Daniel Zajfman, and his wife, Joelle, welcomed 80 talented high school youths to the 41st Dr. Bessie F. Lawrence International Summer Science Institute (ISSI). These included youths from 18 countries, including the USA, Canada, Switzerland, England, Germany, Belgium, France, Serbia, Hungary, Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Kazakhstan, Thailand, Korea, the Netherlands and Israel.
The four-week program, organized by the Davidson Institute of Science Education, combined hands-on laboratory work, lectures and group discussions, as well as trips around Israel and evening social activities – this year, students got the chance to demonstrate their artistic side by having a music and talent evening.
Working in the labs of Weizmann scientists, the ISSI campers were given a unique opportunity to learn firsthand about research being conducted at the forefront of science. They had the chance to design and conduct advanced scientific lab experiments in different fields of research and learned how to deliver written and oral presentations on their findings.
