Over a thousand kids, from third to sixth grade, participated in this year's Young Math Olympics. The semifinal rounds took place in eleven different locations, from Eilat in the south to Tel Hai in the north, as well as in Palo Alto, California, for children of Israelis there. The 39 finalists recieved their awards January in a festive event at the Weizmann Institute of Science. The event is organized by Young Mathematicians, a collaboration between teachers and mathematicians to get kids involved in doing math.

In addition to promoting math skills, the organization hopes to encourage these kids, when they get to high school, to compete in national and international Math Olympics.
