REHOVOT, Israel - February 3, 1998 - A promising cancer therapy which destroys tumors by exposing them to light may be significantly improved thanks to new materials developed at the Weizmann Institute of Science. Institute scientists reported on the new development at the Conference on Chemical Modifiers of Cancer Treatment in Clearwater, Florida, on January 28-31.

REHOVOT, Israel - October 13, 1997 - An elite group of high-school mathematics students from the former Soviet Union have learned that, if you want to get to Israel, you have to do your homework. These 19 students, who visited Israel recently, were chosen from among 3,000 participants in a special math enrichment program designed at the Weizmann Institute of Science and administered by Israel's Foreign Ministry.

Lawrence International Summer Science Institute that will run from July 2 to August 1. The annual summer program brings together outstanding high school graduates from around the world and offers them the opportunity to learn directly from scientists at the Weizmann Institute.

REHOVOT, Israel - June 3, 1997 - A record number of master's degrees and a large number of doctorates were awarded at the Feinberg Graduate School's annual graduation ceremony at the Weizmann Institute of Science last night (Monday, June 2). Among the 161 graduates was a high proportion of immigrants from the former Soviet Union, reflecting the huge wave of immigration to Israel from that area earlier this decade.

Today, however, Sachs, a professor at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, is renowned for pioneering of a very different nature. REHOVOT, Israel -- March 18, 1997 -- Prof. Leo Sachs of the Weizmann Institute of Science has been awarded Harvard Medical School's Warren Alpert Foundation Prize. Given "in recognition of scientific discoveries leading to improved understanding and treatment of disease," the prize will be presented to Prof. Sachs at a ceremony at the Harvard Medical School on April 17.

The appointment covers the fields of science education and international scientific cooperation.
