REHOVOT, Israel -- October 17, 1996 -- Prof. Leo Sachs of the Weizmann Institute of Science has been named this year s recipient of an award for an outstanding contribution to society. Prof. Sachs, 72, received the Ot Hanagid (Medal of the Governor) award, presented annually by Jerusalem's Shaare Zedek Medical Center, for his pioneering work in cancer research.

REHOVOT, Israel -- July 10, 1996 -- An intensive effort to shed light on Tourette syndrome -- the humiliating genetic disorder known for causing sufferers to twitch and swear repetitively -- brought six Yale University professors to Israel's Weizmann Institute of Science recently for a meeting of leading scientific minds.

REHOVOT, Israel. The Weizmann Institute's Professor Meir Wilchek has been named the 1996 winner of the prestigious Distinguished Clinical Chemist Award, given every three years by the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry. Prof. Wilchek, who revolutionized the purification of biochemicals, will be presented with the award on July 7 at the opening ceremony of the Federation s triennial international congress being held in London on July 7 - 12.

REHOVOT, Israel -- May 26, 1996 -- Weizmann Institute Prof. Yoseph Imry, a leading expert in the theory of solid state physics and one of the founders of the new and growing field known as mesoscopic physics, will today receive the 1996 Rothschild Prize in Physics, to be presented at a ceremony taking place at the Knesset, Israel's Parliament, in Jerusalem.

REHOVOT, Israel -- June 10, 1996 -- Six outstanding Weizmann Institute scientists have just received prizes for their research work. Dr. Shimon Edelman of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Computer Science was awarded the Morris L. Levinson Prize in Mathematics for his research on representation of three-dimensional objects in vision.
